From Basic Economy to Flagship

What you get depends heavily on the aircraft and route. Long-haul wide-body flights offer the most choice; short domestic flights usually have Main Cabin and First only. Tips for cheaper American Airlines fares

  1. Pick the right hub

Miami for Latin America, Philadelphia or New York for Europe. A better connection can be worth more than a lower fare.

  2. Compare Basic and Main Cabin

Basic Economy saves money but limits seats and changes. Price both before booking.

  3. Count the bag fees

Domestic economy fares rarely include a checked bag. Add the fee when comparing airlines.

  4. Look at partner routings

A British Airways or Iberia flight on the same booking can be cheaper to Europe.

  5. Add your AAdvantage number

Add it when booking so the trip counts toward status — it also unlocks free Wi-Fi on board.

Your AA ticket in four steps

  3. Step 3 Add details

Enter traveller names exactly as on ID and add your AAdvantage number.

  4. Step 4 Fly

Get your confirmation by email, then check in with American Airlines before you fly.
